Environmental Arts Project
In September
a group of Cumbrian artists agreed to participate in our Environmental Arts
project under the guidance of Adam Clarke, an experienced artist and freelance
creative practitioner. The participants took part in two residential weekends
based at Low Luckens farm, where they developed their creative ideas and planned
activities for children from Yewdale Primary School.
Project Exhibition
An exhibition of the resulting works
of art was held at Carlisle City Library from November 23rd 2009 until December
14th 2009.


Adam is an experienced freelance Creative Practitioner,
with a BA for illustration and a background in higher education. Adam has
worked on a wide range of community arts projects across Cumbria including Helix
Arts, Creative Futures and Drop Zone.

Jac is a tutor, artist and
volunteer with experience of working with all ages and abilities in the
community. Graduating in 2005 with a BA (hons) in Contemporary Applied Art, Jac
is currently undertaking postgraduate qualifications in teaching.

Ellie graduated from
Goldsmiths College, London with a BA in Fine Art & Contemporary Critical Studies
in July 2008. Upon graduating Ellie decided to leave London to explore the
possibilities of working as an artist away from the capital. Ellie currently
works as a practising artist and freelance art workshop leader around the
county.

David graduated in
June 2009 with a BA (Hons) Photography degree from the University of Cumbria.
Studies have now progressed into MA Photography where personal work hopes to
progress further through exhibition and developed within community arts. He has
also taken part in a group exhibition at Theatre by the Lake and hopes to
develop a career in lecturing.

Sophie Henderson is a
practising landscape artist with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, based in Cumbria, who
has exhibited on a local, national and international level. Sophie has a wide
range of teaching experience in schools, college, prison and community art
projects; tailoring the project to the needs and level of the participants. To view

Yewdale
Primary School attended four day sessions, with each participating artist
leading the day’s activities with the support of Sue Bone, Low Luckens
Educational Development Officer and Centre Staff.
Jac Addison
helped the children create beautiful ceramic bird feeders, Ellie Chaney and the
children created a short animation film showing the life cycle of a tree, David
Fawcett helped the children create digital images based upon a theme of
unnatural and natural and Sophie Henderson facilitated the creation of sound
pictures using wood based materials.

Previous Farm
based Art Activities
Helen
Gorrill is an Art student at the University of Cumbria and centre member of Low
Luckens Organic Resource Centre. During the first part of 2008 Helen
requested permission to draw, sketch and study the farm animals.
The images
below are a selection of the drawings & developments further to Helen's work at
Low Luckens. All initial studies were drawn plein air, from life and
worked on/developed in her studio space at Shaddon Mill. The
seascape equestrian drawing was drawn in Argyll from an off-shore position,
using the initial sketches from Low Luckens to base the work on.
We are
hoping to hold an exhibition of Helen's work at the Centre during 2009. To
