Environmental Arts Project

In September a group of Cumbrian artists agreed to participate in our Environmental Arts project under the guidance of Adam Clarke, an experienced artist and freelance creative practitioner.  The participants took part in two residential weekends based at Low Luckens farm, where they developed their creative ideas and planned activities for children from Yewdale Primary School.

Project Exhibition

An exhibition of the resulting works of art was held at Carlisle City Library from November 23rd 2009 until December 14th 2009.

Yewdale School Activity Days

Yewdale Primary School attended four day sessions, with each participating artist leading the day’s activities with the support of Sue Bone, Low Luckens Educational Development Officer and Centre Staff.

Jac Addison helped the children create beautiful ceramic bird feeders, Ellie Chaney and the children created a short animation film showing the life cycle of a tree, David Fawcett helped the children create digital images based upon a theme of unnatural and natural and Sophie Henderson facilitated the creation of sound pictures using wood based materials.

Previous Farm based Art Activities

Helen Gorrill

Helen Gorrill is an Art student at the University of Cumbria and centre member of Low Luckens Organic Resource Centre.  During the first part of 2008 Helen requested permission to draw, sketch and study the farm animals.

The images below are a selection of the drawings & developments further to Helen's work at Low Luckens.   All initial studies were drawn plein air, from life and worked on/developed in her studio space at Shaddon Mill.   The seascape equestrian drawing was drawn in Argyll from an off-shore position, using the initial sketches from Low Luckens to base the work on.

We are hoping to hold an exhibition of Helen's work at the Centre during 2009.  To find out more about Helen & her work look at::
