Project Background

Low Luckens Organic Resource Centre is delighted to announce the result of a successful application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for its Discovering North Cumbrian Traditions and Rural Past Project.  The project will benefit many local groups, organisations and schools from both Cumbria and over the border in Northumbria.  Participants are from all ages and abilities including local youth groups, 50+ groups, learning disabled adults and disadvantaged families.

The project will run over two years, and represents an investment of just under £50,000.  Project planning and application development has taken approximately six months to achieve a successful outcome.

Discovering North Cumbrian Traditions and Rural Past will encourage participants to celebrate their Cumbrian heritage, via a series of visits, workshops and events, based at Low Luckens farm, Tullie House Museum (Carlisle) and Greenholme Nursing Home (Haltwhistle).  These events will include traditional arts & crafts, woodland skills, story telling, traditional methods of food production & Cumbrian Song & Dance.

Newlaithes School

Newlaithes Junior School World War 2 day visits took place on 11th and 18th November 2008, both days were a great success.

"This World War 2 evacuee themed day gives children a very tangible insight into the experience of evacuee children in World War 2.  It enables us to undertake informed, detailed cross-curricular work based on the experience."
