
The following events and workshops are part of LLORC’s Discovering North Cumbrian Traditions and Rural Past Project. These activities are free of charge; however there may be a small fee to cover refreshments if and when they are provided.
Priority booking will be given to project participants with any surplus places open to the general public.
Always bring a packed lunch unless refreshments are specified as part of the programme. Wear warm and comfortable clothing.
As places are limited a £5 returnable deposit or refreshment fee (if applicable) will be required at the time of booking.
A maximum of two places for each event and up to 3 events per household may be booked.
20th March 10.30am to 3.00pm - Traditional Felt Making Workshop
Tutor: Julie Harrison
Join Julie for a fun one day felt making workshop and take home your own piece of felt to make up into an item of your choice. Participants will need to bring/wear old clothes or a protective apron, rubber gloves and a towel. This workshop is suitable for adults and families

30th May 10.30am to 3.00pm - Traditional Clog Dancing Session
Tutors: Mike & Debbie Kermode
Enjoy a day of traditional Cumbrian music and step dancing in clogs or hard shoes with Mike and Debbie Kermode. A number of pairs of traditional clogs will be provided to try, up to adult size 10. Participants should know we will be dancing in the barn or farmyard and wear clothing to suit.
6th June 10.00 to 3.30pm - Herbal Workshop
Tutor: Jackie Cooper MNIMH
Spend the day at Low Luckens with medical herbalist Jackie Cooper, learning about, collecting and identifying herbs. Enjoy the taste of refreshing herbal teas and create wonderful skin creams to take home. Please bring stout shoes and jacket for herb collection walk.
20th June 7.00pm to 10pm - Traditional Cumbrian Ceilidh & BBQ
Band: Striding Edge
Enjoy a flavoursome locally produced organic BBQ and then spend the evening with Mike Willoughby, Carolyn Francis and Striding Edge in this celebration of Cumbrian song & dance. The Ceilidh is free of charge; however there will be a refreshment fee of £5 (non-returnable) to cover the cost of the BBQ food.
Summer Holiday Activities and Events for Children
20th July 10am to 2pm - Traditional Clog Dancing Day
Tutors: Mike & Debbie Kermode
A fun day of for young people aged 7-11 years. The day’s activities include traditional dancing and creating traditional dancing costume accessories. A number of traditional pairs of clogs will be provided in all sizes up to young adult. Bring an extra pair of socks in case clogs are not a perfect fit. Children are advised to wear comfortable clothing.
26th August 10am to 2pm - Traditional Crafts with Felt and Wood
Tutors: Liz & Edward Brown
A day of traditional crafts for young people ideally suited to children of 7 – 11 years of age. Participants will enjoy a "hands-on" day creating a felt or wooden item to take home. Old comfortable clothes are best worn for this event.
